Modesto Brown Berets Membership Requirements
In order to become a member of the Modesto Brown Berets, a person must:
1. Attend a minimum of 3 Brown Beret meetings in a row
2. Submit verbally, hand-written, typed or e-mail information on why they want to be a Brown Beret
3. Present an educational piece in project format (verbally & typed) at a ‘Chicano History in the Park’ meeting
4. Read the Modesto Brown Berets Code of Conduct, Communiqué, History, Reading Packet & The Four Agreements and present a brief summary either verbally, hand-written, typed or by e-mail.
The preceding requirements will grant you a conditional membership with the Modesto Brown Berets. In order to become a full-fledged member you must also complete the following requirements:
1. Purchase a Brown Beret uniform which consists of the following:
a. Brown pants, brown shirt, brown beret, MBB logo t-shirt, MBB logo sweater & MBB logo armband
2. Read a minimum of 1 book from each subject area from the Brown Berets Reading List and present a summary either verbally, hand-written, typed or by e-mail
3. Watch a minimum of 1 video or video collection from each subject area from the Brown Berets Video List and present a summary either verbally, hand-written, typed or by e-mail
4. Contribute to planning and coordinating at least one Brown Beret event or function
Once the last 4 requirements are completed the conditional member becomes a certified member of the Modesto Brown Berets. Members are expected to attend meetings regularly and participate in online discussion, pay monthly dues of $10, and help in the organization of all beret events and functions.
